Terms of Service

1. Acceptance of Terms

By creating an account or using BookBuddy ("Service"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree to these terms, do not use the Service. We may update these terms at any time; continued use of the Service constitutes acceptance.

2. Account Rules

  • You must be at least 13 years old to use BookBuddy.
  • You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account credentials.
  • You must provide accurate information when creating your account.
  • Each person may maintain only one free account. Multiple accounts to circumvent tier limits are prohibited.
  • You are responsible for all activity that occurs under your account.
  • Notify us immediately of any unauthorized access at security@bookbuddy.app.

3. Acceptable Use

You agree NOT to:

  • Use the Service for any unlawful purpose or in violation of any laws.
  • Harass, abuse, or harm other users.
  • Post reviews or content that is defamatory, offensive, or infringes on others' rights.
  • Attempt to reverse-engineer, scrape, or extract data from the Service in bulk.
  • Circumvent any access controls, rate limits, or tier restrictions.
  • Use the Service to distribute spam or unsolicited communications.
  • Impersonate any person or entity.

4. Subscriptions and Billing

  • Paid subscriptions (Pro at $10/month, Premium at $20/month) are billed monthly via Stripe.
  • Subscriptions automatically renew unless cancelled before the renewal date.
  • You may cancel your subscription at any time from your account settings. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period.
  • We do not offer prorated refunds for partial months unless required by law.
  • We reserve the right to change pricing with 30 days' notice to active subscribers.
  • Failed payments may result in temporary suspension of paid features.

5. User Content

You retain ownership of content you create (reviews, notes, etc.). By posting content, you grant BookBuddy a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to store, display, and distribute your content for the purpose of operating the Service. We may remove content that violates these terms without notice.

6. Intellectual Property

BookBuddy's software, design, and branding are the property of BookBuddy and its licensors. Book metadata, cover images, and other bibliographic data are provided under fair use or license from third parties. You may not reproduce or redistribute the Service's interface or proprietary data.

7. Termination

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your account at any time for violations of these terms, without prior notice. You may delete your account at any time from your settings. Upon termination, your data will be deleted in accordance with our Privacy Policy.

8. Disclaimers and Limitation of Liability

The Service is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind. To the fullest extent permitted by law, BookBuddy shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages, including loss of data, profits, or goodwill, arising from your use of the Service. Our total liability shall not exceed the amount you paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim.

9. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the jurisdiction in which BookBuddy is incorporated, without regard to conflict of law principles. Any disputes shall be resolved through binding arbitration or in courts of competent jurisdiction in that territory.
